UCLA - Wet & Dry Lab Renovation

1/4

Project Description:

The laboratory was designed to support and develop multi-modal multi-scale connectome and cell-type maps of the mammalian brain using advanced tracing, imaging, and computational methods. The cross-disciplinary group of researchers develops neuroanatomic and neuroinformatic approaches to understanding connectivity patterns in both health and disease.

The renovation of the existing teaching laboratory, a space that has remained largely untouched from the original CHS construction, required extensive upgrades to the infrastructure to service the needs of the proposed research. The glass partition along the main circulation hallway is intended to be used as whiteboards, which is meant to encourage cross-disciplinary group interaction, as well as allow natural light into the open office area of the lab.

The project includes a large open laboratory space and/or brain brain-clearing alcove for the preparation of slides for the imaging of mouse brains. Additional lab support areas for animal use include a Behavioral Room and a large Surgery Room. The project also dedicates significant spaces for Microscope Rooms for imaging and office/work areas for computational image analysis.
